ALERT: Irish households warned over potential tumble dryer fires

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) have issued a warning to Irish households about potential tumble dryer fires, and have published tips on how to avoid causing one.

The CCPC have published their top ten safety tips for tumble dryers online, which include simple steps householders can take to avoid potential fires in their homes.

Lint and fluff should be cleaned from the filter and around the door after every use, and fibres, dust and dirt should not be allowed to accumulate around the exhaust exit or nearby areas.

A tumble dryer must be placed in a spot with enough ventilation to prevent overheating, and should never be placed on a carpet covered floor.

Extension cords, multi-plugs or adaptors should never be used to connect a dryer to the power supply, as doing so increases the potential for electric shock or fire.

More tips are available on the CCPC website here.
