ANOTHER bout of heavy rain and strong wind is set to hit the country this New Year's weekend.

Eight southern and western counties have been issued with yellow weather warnings, as another wave of disruptive weather is on the way.

Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Mayo and Wexford have been put on status yellow alert by Met Éireann, as southwest winds and thundery showers can be expected this Saturday.

Met Éireann is warning of unsettled conditions which may include surface flooding, high tides, debris and misplaced trees and difficult travelling conditions.

This follows on from Storm Gerrit earlier in the week, which caused some disruption around the country. The latest warning is valid from 2am Saturday, December 30 to 11pm that night.
