Renowned Irish singer-songwriter coming to Limerick town for first-ever performance

A RENOWNED singer-songwriter is coming to Limerick for a one-night show this May to top off a stellar month of spring performances in the live-music scene.

As part of the acclaimed Cleary's Window Sessions Spring Series in Newcastle West, renowned Irish singer-songwriter David Kitt will take the stage in Cleary’s Bar on Wednesday, May 14.

This intimate performance promises a captivating evening, which David himself says will be “a full sounding, dynamic show” and “an evening of entertainment”.

“It’s the first time I will be playing in Newcastle West, I’m excited about that! It’s a bit closer to home, because I live in south Kerry and it’s nice to have a gig that I don’t have to trek five hours away!

“It’s a solo show and will be a combination of new and old stuff that I have been developing over the last 10 to 15 years. I haven’t been gigging in a long time, so I am really excited.”

David said along with acoustics, he will be using electronic sounds and will also be “engaging with the audience” by “telling stories he has never done before”.

Now in its fourth year, the Window Sessions Series has become a cornerstone of west Limerick’s live music culture, showcasing a mix of established national talent and emerging artists.

David Kitt’s appearance is just one of many highlights in Newcastle West’s busy music calendar over the last month.

This included the third Music Trail Festival which took place on April 26, a celebration of diverse sounds from brass funk to Scottish pipes and salsa dancers, all capped by Jerry Fish, who performed

Whether it’s these boundary-pushing festivals or the laid-back yet electric energy of Cleary’s Window Sessions, Newcastle West continues to host stellar performances in the live music scene. A summer festival will be taking place on June 14, called Summer Jam, in Cleary's.

An outdoor gig, open to 250 attendees, this year’s theme is reggae.

“We have an amazing local talent, Trevor Sexton, opening the Festival, followed by Electric Picnic staples TBL8 Brass Funk,” said an organiser.

“And the main act is Cardiff reggae sensations, Captain Accident & The Disasters, fresh from supporting Julian Marley and Glastonbury. The efforts here are to satisfy the appetite for music, art and life in the area!”

Tickets are available for David Kitt on May 14 now here.
