Munster Rugby issue squad injury update ahead of top-of-the-table URC clash with DHL Stormers

THE Munster Rugby  squad is continuing preparations at their High Performance Centre at UL ahead of Saturday’s top-of-the-table United Rugby Championship clash with DHL Stormers, of South Africa at Thomond Park, 5.30pm.

On the international front, Tadhg Beirne, Craig Casey, Jack Crowley and Tom Farrell were all in action for Ireland against the Springboks on Saturday.

There is good news for seven players on the injury front. Thaakir Abrahams, Diarmuid Barron, Conor Bartley, Mike Haley, John Hodnett, Alex Kendellen and Niall Scannell all return to Munster training this week.

Edwin Edogbo is increasing his training load and his availability will be determined later in the week.

Winger Calvin Nash (shoulder) has returned to non-contact training and is increasing his training exposure.

Prop Oli Jager (HIA) has returned to non-contact training and is awaiting specialist review prior to his return to contact training.

Andrew Smith (knee and hamstring) is making good progress with his rehab and increasing his training content.

Brian Gleeson (elbow) is continuing to rehab.

Some 47 players have featured in Munster’s first six games of the campaign with 99 club appearances for senior and Academy players so far this season in the Energia AIL and Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup.

Shay McCarthy scored two tries for Young Munster with Tony Butler, Jake O’Riordan, Kieran Ryan and Luke Murphy also starting as the Cookies were beaten by UCD.

Eoghan Smyth, Mark Donnelly, Danny Sheahan and Dylan Hicks were in action for Cork Constitution last week as they were beaten by Clontarf.

Darragh McSweeney started for Nenagh Ormond as they were beaten by Ballynahinch.

Gordon Wood and the front row of George Hadden, Max Clein and Ronan Foxe helped Garryowen to a win over City of Armagh.

Emmet Calvey and Oisín Minogue helped Shannon to a win away to Greystones.

Ben O’Connor was a try-scorer for UCC with Conor Ryan and Seán Edogbo also starting their victory over Queen’s University.

Academy out-half Tom Wood was in action for the Ireland U20s against South Africa last week with Munster’s Christopher Barrett, Joe Finn, Christian Foley and Michael O’Sullivan also involved.
