ALERT: Six-week road closure to impact busy Limerick town this Christmas

Peppard’s lane in Rathkeale to close for festive traffic management, with council urging motorists to follow diversions

ALERT: Six-week festive road closure set to impact Limerick town this winter

RESIDENTS and visitors in Rathkeale are being advised of a temporary road closure on Peppard’s Lane as the festive season approaches. Limerick City and County Council has confirmed that the section of Peppard’s Lane from Main Street to a point 13 metres along the lane will be closed from 8:00am on Monday, 24th November 2025, until 5:00pm on Sunday, 11th January 2026.

The closure is part of the council’s festive traffic management plan, designed to ensure safety and smooth movement during the busy holiday period. While the section nearest Main Street will be inaccessible, access to Peppard’s Lane will remain open via Fairhill, allowing local residents and businesses to continue to reach their properties.

John Sheehan, Acting Senior Engineer for Transportation and Mobility, urged motorists and pedestrians to observe signage and follow the alternative routes provided during the closure. He added that the council will monitor traffic flows and adjust arrangements if necessary to minimise disruption.

Anyone with queries regarding the closure can contact Limerick City and County Council at 061-556000.
