Man attacked with a hurley and car rammed in Limerick

Gardai arrest a man in connection with the incident in Rathkeale
A MAN has been arrested by gardai after a car was rammed and a person attacked with a hurley in broad daylight in Rathkeale.
A video of the incident on Sunday has been widely shared on social media. It shows two damaged cars on the road following a collision. The airbag in one was deployed. One woman can be heard saying her child was in one of the cars.
The video appears to show two men attacking another man. One man can be seen hitting him with a hurley into the head area numerous times. The second man punches him in the face.
It is not known how the incident started but there are reports there was a disagreement between them in the town shortly before it happened.
Limerick Live understands it is not connected to a feud between families in Rathkeale, which has seen a jeep and a lorry driven into properties and an arson attack in a house in recent weeks.
A garda spokesperson said gardaí were alerted to a public order incident in Rathkeale, County Limerick on Sunday afternoon, December 1.
“The incident in which a vehicle was rammed and a male assaulted occurred on Lower Main Street area at approximately 4:30pm.
“A man in his 20s has since been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in county Limerick.
“Investigations are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson on Monday night.
