A COUNTY Limerick location recorded the coldest temperature in the country overnight.
Springfield Castle Automatic Climate Station located near Broadford, County Limerick, recorded a temperature of -8c overnight and -8.8c at 8am this morning, making it the coldest location in the country on record so far this week.
Parts of Kerry, Galway and Louth saw temperatures of -7c overnight.
While freezing temperatures are set to continue until this Friday, Met Éireann have this morning issued a further status orange freezing fog weather warning for Limerick as well as Clare, Tipperary and most of Leinster.
They said: "Freezing fog, dense in places, will persist through the afternoon and into tonight, leading to very hazardous driving conditions."
The warning, which was issued shortly before 11am this morning, remains in place until midnight on Tuesday, December 13.
Following a meeting of the National Emergency Co-ordination Group on Sunday it was confirmed that schools in Limerick and across the country will remain open this week - unless local school management feel a closure is necessary for safety reasons.
