Car burnt out after woman knocked down in hit and run in Limerick

A WOMAN was left for dead on a pedestrian crossing after she was knocked down in a hit and run in Kilmallock on Sunday night.

It is understood a passer by, who saw the woman lying prone on the ground, contacted emergency services. 

A garda spokesperson confirmed officers attended the scene of a traffic collision that occurred at approximately 9.30pm on Sunday night at Sheares Street, Kilmallock.

"A vehicle and a pedestrian were involved in this collision. The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 30s, was conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained as a result of this collision," said a garda spokesperson.

It is believed she suffered injuries to a shoulder and leg.

Shortly after the hit and run, gardai received reports of a vehicle on fire in Tankardstown graveyard. Firefighters from Kilmallock attended and put out the blaze.

Anybody who may have witnessed what occurred in Kilmallock at 9.30pm on Sunday night, has dashcam footage, or saw a car being driven in a suspicious manner is asked t contact Bruff garda station on 061 382940.
