In Pictures: Limerick councillors honour local individuals and teams for their outstanding achievements

ELECTED members of the Cappamore/Kilmallock Municipal District have formally marked the national and international achievements of a number of people who are living in the district.

Those honoured at a special event at the Deebert House Hotel in Kilmallock were rower Shane Ryan, Maurice Gilbert from Ballyhoura Apple Farm; current Limerick Person of the year Padraig O’Callaghan, mountain bike world champion Oisin O’Callaghan, athlete Ben Coughlan, Limerick senior hurling manager, John Kiely, back room team and panel members from the Municipal District area, Lynda Sheehan of Rockbarton Garden Centre and artist Robert Ryan.

The Cappamore Kilmallock Municipal District stretches from the Slieve Felim Mountains to the Ballyhoura Mountains, and has a strong sense of history, culture and sport, boasting the Clare Glens, Lough Gur, and much more.

“Due to Covid 19, the elected members have not been in a position to host such an event since 2019, and therefore it was with great pride that we are gathering again to acknowledge what has been achieved over the past couple of years in such difficult times,” Cathaoirleach, Cllr John Egan commented.

On the night, Limerick City and County Council’s Meetings Administrator Dara O’Brien, introduced each of the recipients and invited them to receive their specially-commissioned scroll, presented by the Cathaoirleach.

Each recipient made a brief thank you speech to the attendees while John Cregan, Chairman of Limerick County Board and John Kiely spoke on behalf of the members of the Limerick hurling backroom team and panel from the district.

Cllr Egan also spoke on the night explaining why each of recipients was deserving of an award and he congratulated them on their achievements.
