A POPULAR heritage project celebrating the medieval Knights of Glin has solidified its future following the signing of a new long-term lease between Limerick City and County Council and Glin Development.
The agreement secures the public-funded visitor centre at the heart of the village, ensuring that the history of the Knights remains accessible to locals and tourists alike for years to come.
Opened in 2022, the centre operates daily through the commitment of volunteers and features a free interactive audio and visual guide of the story of the Knights of the Valley, while wall-mounted exhibits include paintings and artefacts connected to the castle and its past occupants.

The concept was born from a concern that if the castle, once linked to actor Dominic West and Catherine FitzGerald, entered private hands, its rich story might be lost to the public. A feasibility study later confirmed that relocating the exhibition to a central site near the library would ensure maximum visibility and impact.
Numbers visiting the centre have steadily grown, with the project praised as both a cultural and tourism asset. The new lease now enables further funding bids to sustain and expand the initiative.
