WARNING: River bursts its banks beside busy main Limerick-Cork road

THE RIVER Maigue has burst its banks beside the busy N20 Limerick-Cork road between O'Rourke's Cross and Charleville.

A spokesperson for Limerick City and County Council said it is their main flooding issue following the heavy rainfall on Wednesday and overnight.

"Crews have warning signs erected at Creggane," said the spokesperson.

Just down the road, there was some surface flooding at O'Rourke's Cross. It affected traffic heading for Newcastle West on the Bruff line.

"This was addressed by clearing of road gullies," said the council spokesperson.

There is more rain on the way as Met Eireann has issued Status Yellow rain warnings for Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. It is valid from 9am on Friday morning to 9am Saturday morning.

"There will be heavy and persistent rain falling on saturated ground. Possible impacts include flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility," said a Met Eireann spokesperson.
