PASSING through Shannon Airport this August? Why not travel back in time before heading on your travels abroad!
The Press Photographers Ireland CLG Exhibition, showcasing the “most iconic” new moments of 2024, launched this Tuesday, August 12, and will be on display in the airport until August 26.
The AIB Press Photographer of the Year Awards honour the “finest” in Irish press photography.
The exhibition showcases all winning and shortlisted entries, totalling 110 images that “narrate Ireland’s story throughout 2024”.
The categories showcased in the exhibition include News, Daily Life & People, Sports Action, Arts & Entertainment and Politics.
Notable Limerick talent includes photographers Brendan Gleeson and Keith Wiseman, awarded 2nd in News and 3rd in Public Relations categories respectively.
Sports photographer James Crombie claimed his third AIB Press Photographer of the Year title this year.
His portfolio on display includes Full Stretch, featuring Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes, Tears of Joy, capturing Katie Taylor’s emotional Olympic gold moment, and Crombie’s “iconic” and “sensitively planned” image for Pieta's Darkness Into Light campaign.

Niall Kearns, airport director at Shannon Airport, said: “We are honoured to host this stunning showcase of Irish photojournalism. They say a picture paints a thousand words and that’s certainly true here, with 2024 coming vividly to life as you move among these images.”
Speaking to Limerick Live at the launch event, he encouraged anyone passing through the airport to stop by the exhibition: “It’s lovely when you have an opportunity to browse a collection like this, and see wonderful photographs from the best photographers in the country in one location.”
David Branigan, president of Press Photographers Ireland CLG, noted that: “The age of fake news, disinformation, AI generated and manipulated images is truly upon us. Still, the viewers of these award-winning images on display now at Shannon Airport, like all the work of the members of Press Photographers Ireland, can be assured that only human technical and creative skills have been deployed in telling their stories.”
The exhibition will run until Tuesday, August 26 at Shannon Airport as part of its regional tour.
Located on the first floor of the Departures area, the exhibition is free to visit.
