Limerick-based lawyer Cian Kelly has been appointed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland
LIMERICK Barrister Cian Kelly has been appointed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Mr Kelly, a highly experienced sports lawyer, has been a member of the GAA's Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) for over 18 years, hearing some of its most high profile cases both in Ireland and in the UK.
Outside of GAA matters, he also acted for Limerick FC in a number of cases including their challenge to the FAI's refusal to allow Barcelona FC play in Thomond Park. Mr Kelly is a member of the Council of the Bar of Ireland and was appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Law at the University of Limerick where he will be involved with new Arbitration Courses offered by the Law School.

Mr Kelly is a past pupil of Ardscoil Rís, UCG and the Kings Inn's where he set up their first Hurling club which won the 3rd Level Div 3 All Ireland. He was also a member of the Garryowen FC 3rd XV which was captained by the late Shane Geoghan and he previously managed Na Piarsaigh Junior hurling teams.
From a well known local sporting family, Mr Kelly's father Brian is currently Treasurer of Na Piarsaigh Clg having previously been involved with various Limerick Gaelic Football teams, his mother Lynn was previously GAA Officer in UL, National Development office of the Camogie Association and Lady Captain of Shannon Golf Club.
