The animal viciously attacked another dog on Tuesday evening before being restrained by members of the public
THE DOG involved in a vicious attack on another dog in Limerick city on Tuesday evening is at the centre of a court case in relation to another incident in 2023, Limerick Live has learned.
The pitbull, which was unrestrained and appeared to be without an owner, viciously attacked a smaller dog in a residential area on the Annacotty-Castletroy Greenway on Tuesday.
Brave locals removed the offending animal from the other dog and placed him in a chokehold position.
The dog who was attacked was seriously injured, but no people were harmed over the course of the incident.
The offending dog was destroyed on the scene.
According to one local resident, the dog in question attacked another dog last year on August 29, 2023.
In response to a query from Limerick Live about last year’s incident, a garda spokesperson said: “as this matter is currently before the courts, An Garda Síochána is not in a position to provide comment”.
