An Post apologies over delay to deliveries in Limerick villages

AN POST has issued an apology after residents in some Limerick communities were left without post for a fortnight.

A spokesperson for the company blamed “a combination of factors” for the disruption in postal deliveries.

Local Patrickswell councillor and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Daniel McSweeney has criticised this, saying it's arisen from an “ongoing unofficial dispute.”

He said he was told by the company that this is due to changes it’s staff are implementing around the country.

But he added: “It is extremely disappointing that the people of Patrickswell and Clarina are not receiving the service they deserve and it’s a matter which needs to be addressed immediately.”

It's understood the issues have caused delays in other areas, including Castleconnell.

Councillor McSweeney said he's been assured by the top brass at An Post that they are doing all in their control to address the issue.

But he added he's a huge fear people may be receiving vital documents too late.

“The main concern I have is that I'm aware residents are awaiting passports, medical appointments and other urgent post.

Due to the service - or lack of service - provided by An Post, residents will not receive them in a timely manner,” the Fine Gael man said.

A spokesperson for An Post conceded: “We have been experiencing a series of issues in this area”.

“There have been intermittent disruptions on some routes. We have been working hard to deal with the problem and juggling staff and resources to make sure that disruption was cut to the minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” said the spokesperson for An Post.
