GARDAI in County Clare say the search for a man who was reported missing before the weekend has been stood down following the discovery of a body.
Gardai had sought the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 56-year-old John McNally who was last seen in Shannon on Friday.
In an update, issued this Tuesday night, they confirmed the worst fears of his family.
"Following the discovery of a body of a male in Shannon, County Clare on Tuesday, May, 30, missing person appeal for John McNally (56 years) has been stood down," read the short statement.
Gardai have thanked members of the public and the media for their assistance in recent days.
No further information has been disclosed publicly.
