Limerick singer and poet shortlisted for Night and Day song contest

AFTER “outpouring” her heart, an Adare artist has been shortlisted for a song contest which will see the overall winner perform alongside beloved Limerick artists.

With her song Oak Tree, Shannon Erica Bell has been shortlisted for the final of the Night and Day song contest.

The Adare singer, poet and multidisciplinary artist is dipping her toe into the music scene for the first time – with a delicate DIY home bird release.

As she has been writing, scribbling, observing and learning for “long enough,” it’s now time for her to sing. And love is her favourite feeling to share.

As she noted, Shannon “makes things to heal things, share things to release things – capturing a dream, making a wish, lighting a few flames, making space for new”.

Speaking of her song, the 25-year-old said: “And so, the cycle continues. Oak Tree is my song, it is an outpouring of my heart, an anthem of solace, an invitation for freedom – a sacred heart song”.

The overall winner of the competition will perform at this year’s Night and Day festival, which will see acts such as Mercury Rev, Pillow Queens, Hot House Flowers, Wallis Bird as well as Limerick artists WhenYoung and Emma Langford perform from June 24-25 at Lough Key Forest Park in Co Roscommon.

The winner will also receive a day’s filming and two days editing with Lensmen Photography and Video Production, as well as the chance to record in the sponsored studio of their choice.

Partnered studios include prestigious Hell Fire Studios in the Dublin mountains - where artists such as Hozier, Sinead O’Connor, Liam O Maonlai, Sharon Shannon and Lankum have all recorded their albums - as well as Dublin studio Soundcaster Studios and Galway’s Paddy Jordan Recording.
