LIMERICK’s favourite ‘dead poets’ will release a live performance for their politically-driven single.
With music catering for twentysomethings living in a country that completely ignores them, Dylan Flynn and The Dead Poets have released a special performance, to mark the release of their debut album, ‘how are you feeling today?’
The band is made up of saxophonist Chris Britton, drummer Evan Forde, guitarist Keegan Forde, bass player Emmet Ryan, and frontman Dylan Flynn.
Filmed on top of a car park on Thomas St by Wojciech Kwiatkowski and directed by Jamie Moore in the heart of Limerick city, the video clip features a garage-rock inspired song, ‘nowhere to live’, which details the state of the current housing crisis in Ireland, as well as mass emigration and the government’s lack of awareness.
With help from Mike Gavin from Windings, the song was written, recorded and self-produced by the band in their small studio space in Limerick City.
Speaking of the political driven song, leader singer Dylan Flynn commented: “So many of our friends have disappeared from this city over the last year, so it felt it like the right thing to shoot this video with the skyline in the background.
“The lack of housing around the country, especially where we are living in Limerick, is unsustainable, and it feels like the government just turned away from it.”
Influenced by the likes of Bon Iver, Radiohead, The 1975 and The War on Drugs, the quintet blend elements of jangle-pop and alt-rock.
The up-and-comers have about 24,014 monthly listeners on Spotify, have secured support slots with bands such as NewDad and Milk, and have also played a number of sold out headline shows.
Their live performance of 'nowhere to live' is out this Wednesday, March 29 at 6pm.
Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets will perform in Dolan's Warehouse in the city on April 7.
