Scripts to the ready! TYT students Ludwig, Ríonagh, Joan, Emma, Julie, Caoimhe and Mary Kate at rehearsals
LIMERICK Youth Theatre’s Transition Year Theatre company is putting on a one of a kind production for two nights in Limerick, with their own theatrical creation called ‘The Jamie Johnson Show’.
Directed by John Hogan and co-written with Rebecca Mooney, the play follows the events during a live television broadcast of The Jamie Johnson Show - where it becomes quickly clear that protagonist Jamie isn’t as charming off screen, as he is on screen.
Working with 16 transition year students from schools in Limerick city and county, the play will be staged by the Transition Year Theatre (TYT) Company, supported by Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Clare Education Training Board, at the Belltable, Limerick on February 28 and March 1, at 7:30pm at €10 each.
What Angie Smalis, Artistic Director of LYT describes as “a feast for the senses”, the play is both satirical and incorporates song and dance for a night of fun, exclusive to Limerick.
“We are thrilled that we can offer TY students the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on work experience with us - this really does give students an insight into how a theatre company is run and the work involved in staging a show at a professional venue,” explained Angie.
“The play is a feast for the senses, the director has incorporated song and dance to this comic piece and we know it’s going to be a great night out for family and friends,” she added
