A LOCAL youth organisation is hosting a workshop on the opportunities available to people aged 18 to 30 to volunteer across Europe.

An information seminar takes place on the European Solidarity Corps at the Northside Youth Space, Ballynanty, Limerick on Thursday, September 14 from 10am to 1pm.

The European Solidarity Corps gives young adults the opportunity to volunteer with youth, community, educational and sporting groups in Ireland or across Europe. Participants can volunteer for a period of between two weeks and 10 months, and are entitled to a weekly allowance.

Stacey Lyons, a former participant on the programme, reflected on her previous volunteer work, where she spent 10 months in Finland.

“At the time, I was unemployed, and starting to doubt myself, when a youth worker suggested I try the European Solidarity Corps,” said Stacey, a Ballynanty native.

“I had never lived outside of home, so to go to Finland was daunting - but looking back, I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did”.

Delivered by Léargas, the information session is suitable for youth and community organisations, schools and sports groups.
