FORMER Young Munster player, Liam Og Murphy, could feature for the USA Eagles in their upcoming clash with Ireland after making his international debut last weekend.
The 24-year-old back row forward impressed when introduced as a replacement for John Quill, of Dolphin, in the USA’s 9-16 defeat to Canada in the first match of the IRB Pacific Nations Cup at Ellerslie Rugby Park, Edmonton, Canada.
Murphy is currently playing his club rugby with Boston Rugby who compete in the USA Rugby National Championship in Division 1.
Murphy was a key member of the Young Munster pack in their AIL for several seasons and also played for the Ireland Club side. He represented St Munchin’s College at school’s level.
Ireland are due to face the USA Eagles in their first match of their summer tour at the BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston at 1.30am Irish time on Sunday, June 9. The game will be televised live on TG4.
Meanwhile, Young Munster out-half Shane O’Leary is a key member of the Canadian U-20s squad which is competing at the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy in Chile. Nineteen year-old O’Leary lined out for Munsters’ in the AIL last season. Canada opened their campaign with a 24-6 victory over Tonga this Tuesday.
The Canadian U-20s continue their programme of games against Japan this Saturday, before taking on Uruguay on Wednesday next.
