Treaty United lost out to Shelbourne in the Women's Premier Division at the Markets Field on Saturday
BATTLING Treaty United put in a brave showing before succumbing 3-1 to high-flying Shelbourne at the Markets Field as the Women's Premier Division resumed for the first time since June.
Treaty United, in their first league outing since the weekend of June 10 and playing their first competitive fixture since the All-Ireland Cup at the very start of July, proved formidable opponents for the second-placed Shels' side in the opening half.
However, the Dubliners took the lead just before the break through a goal from the penalty spot converted by Noelle Murray.
The same player doubled the visitors advantage six minutes after the restart through some superb individual skill – and a helping deflection on her shot.
However, resilient Treaty, who featured several new signings in their line-up hit back when Orlagh Fitzpatrick scored a debut goal in the 81st minute to give the home supporters hope. That hope was quickly dashed, however, though as Morgan Rees scored her first goal for Shelbourne.
Treaty United currently sit in ninth place in the Women's Premier Division table ahead of Sligo Rovers and Cork City. Treaty travel to Wexford FC for their next outing in the Women's Premier Division on Sunday, September 9.
