LIMERICK soccer star Claire O'Riordan scored her first senior international goal in this Thursday evening's women's international friendly match between Republic of Ireland and Zambia at Tallaght Stadium.
The Newcastle West native scored the second goal of the night for Vera Pauw's side in what was an impressive display for O'Riordan and one which she will hope copperfastens her place in the finalised World Cup squad to be named in the coming week.
Two goals from Amber Barrett either side of one from O'Riordan handed Ireland a 3-2 victory after an excellent second half performance.
The 28 year old west Limerick woman is after an impressive season with Celtic. This start against Zambia was her 19th international senior cap since her debut against Hungary in March 2016.
O'Riordan joined Scottish giants Celtic FC Women from German side Duisburg last Summer.
Multi-talented O'Riordan has played camogie and Ladies Gaelic football for Limerick - she played camogie with Newcastle West and Ladies Football with Monagea.
After impressing in the colours of Newcastle West AFC, O'Riordan then made her name in the Women's National League with Wexford as a striker. There, the highly rated O'Riordan won league titles and the FAI Cup.
She converted to centre back following her move to Germany with Duisburg in 2018 and has since been a regular in Republic of Ireland women's senior squads.
