LIMERICK parents Una and John Joe Quish are working hard to raise funds to send their child to receive treatment in the United States.

The Quish family are hoping to raise €20,000 to send their six-year-old son, Noah, to a three-week feeding and speech therapy at the NAPA Centre in Austin, Texas. This treatment is unavailable in Ireland.

The family are hosting a breakfast party for families with young kids this Saturday, June 24 at the French Connection café in Annacotty. All proceeds will go to funding Noah’s trip to Texas scheduled for October.

Noah, who is nonverbal, tube fed, and suffers from severe scoliosis needs speech and eating therapy to understand why he is unable to swallow. Una has been trying for three years to get a place on the treatment list.

Luckily, a cancellation in May opened a spot for the family later this year, now they’re rushing to get the funds needed.

The family is racing against the clock to get the funds for the trip as Noah is due recurring spinal surgery at the end of this year and may be fit for plane travel until his teens.

“Time is flying now, and it’s been hard organizing everything.” Una told Limerick Leader.

Una hasn’t been able get an answer from Irish doctors about why Noah is unable to talk or swallow.

“Nobody knows if he’ll ever talk.” said Una.

Noah is due for brain surgery in two weeks to remedy a Chiari malformation that is preventing access to his spine for surgery needed to aid his scoliosis.
