Limerick gardaí warning of 'busy scammers' this Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Gardaí are urging caution after reports of a woman who was scammed out of €250
SCAMMERS are set to be “busy” this Black Friday and Cyber Monday according to Limerick gardaí, who have urged the public to exercise caution when buying online.
Gardaí in Limerick have asked the public to be “extremely mindful” if buying online this weekend and Monday, as reports of a woman being scammed out of hundreds of euros has come to light.
Sergeant Aoife Bannon of Henry St garda station said: “Earlier this week, a lady had received a text from who she believed was An Post, to pay outstanding customs charges for a parcel which she had actually ordered and was awaiting delivery.
“She clicked on the link and made payment for what she thought was €2.50 but it later transpired that the link was not legitimate and she was scammed out of €250.”
This Friday, November 29 is Black Friday, while Monday, December 2 is known as Cyber Monday, meaning online sales will be particularly busy.
“We urge anyone using websites for online shopping to be extremely mindful of which sites they are using and their authenticity,” Sgt Bannon said.
“Never ever click on links received in text messages or emails if you are unsure of them.
“If you have been a victim of any fraud or scam, change your passwords and pin codes immediately, report it to your bank, where you can ask them to do a recall, and then report it to gardaí,” she said.
