THE Limerick District League junior soccer season returns to action this weekend following the Christmas break with focus firmly on cup action.

The Lawson, Touhy and Ger Ryan Cups kick off with some exciting games in prospect.

The Premier League’s Tuohy Cup draw has paired the top two sides Fairview Rgs and Ballynanty Rvs on Saturday evening in what promises to be a thriller.

Fairview have been superb to date but a slip up against Janesboro in their last outing has given hope to the chasing pack.

Balla have also had a great first half of the season and as renowned cup fighters they go into the tie with real hope.

Also on Saturday night, the local derby between Regional Utd and Mungret Regional is another tie well worth a visit.

There is great rivalry between these neighbours with very little usually diving the sides at the end of the game.

On Sunday Corbally Utd can take a break from the pressures of survival in the Premier League when they host Aisling Annacotty in Athlunkard.

The Lawson Cup sees two Premier sides meet when Nenagh host Athlunkard Villa.

Like Corbally, both sides have been under pressure for points in the league so Sunday will be a welcome break to allow both sides more freedom.

Top Premier A side Moyross Utd face the short trip to Coonagh Utd while Newport welcome Southend Utd after inflicting a heavy defeat on the Southill side in their last outing.

Summerville Rovers and Carew Park are fancied in their games versus Parkville and Meanus respectively.

Division 1A leaders Herbertstown visit Patrickswell and Star Rovers are expected to advance at Castle Utd.

Shelbourne are favourites at home to Lisnagry while Prospect Priory v Holycross should be a good cup tie.

High flying Murroe AFC host Hyde Rangers B and Glenview Rovers welcome Caherdavin Celtic.

Other games scheduled are Cappamore Celtic v Newtown Rovers, Abbey Rovers v Dromore Celtic, Castle Rovers v Northside, Knockainey v Kilfrush, Caherconlish v Croom Utd, Pallas Utd v Charleville and Ballylanders v Lough Derg.

The Ger Ryan also kicks off this weekend. The top game is the clash of Corbally Utd and Pike Rovers. Both sides are in fine form so should produce a thrilling encounter.

Other highlights are Aisling Annacotty v Kilmallock Utd, Herbertstown v Holycross and Shelbourne v Caherconlish.
