LDL PREMIER DIVISION:

Fairview Rangers 1 Geraldines 0

FAIRVIEW Rgs maintained their grip on the lead in the Premier League following a 1-0 win over Geraldines on Thursday evening.

The league champions were forced to dig deep to see off a hard-working Geraldines XI whose efforts deserved something from the tie and an unfortunate 77th minute own goal saw them stumble over the line.

The Blues were distinctly off kilter up front where their normal flowing threat was absent. Dine’s keeper Jose Zaquieu was only called into action beyond the normal on one occasion in the opening half producing a superb block to deny Shane Duggan’s shot from inside the box.

At the other end, Josh McCarthy made a fine save to deny Scott McEvoy when it looked like the visitors might break through.
It was much the same after the break with chances at a premium. Zaquieu made a good save from Oleg Vysochan on the hour mark.

The home side got their breakthrough thirteen minutes from time. Vysochan gathered midway through the half and took off on a mazy run. Although well marshalled he succeeded in getting a shot off, which struck a defender to wrongfoot the keeper and ended in the net.

The visitors tried valiantly to get back in the tie but Fairview held firm.
