FOLLOWING last weekend’s kick off of proceedings in the Limerick District League junior soccer, we are straight into midweek action this week.
On Thursday evening (August 28) the Premier League sees Ballynanty Rvs make the short trip to Lee Estate to take on Athlunkard Villa.
Balla’ were highly impressive in their opener beating Aisling 4-0. The firepower they offer up front will be a challenge to any side. Kane Connolly opened with a brace of goals and the addition of Oscar Traynor striker Vinny Ryan is a masterstroke.
Conor Keane hobbled out of the action last weekend but if fit, he offers a further threat.
Athlunkard Villa played their first ever Premier League game on Sunday and earned a point with a 2-2 draw at Corbally Utd.
Villa have withstood the appeal of bringing in a bunch of new players, opting instead to stick with the players who secured promotion and that decision may well stand to them.
They will need to be at their best to hold out a Balla side full of confidence.
Champions Fairview Rangers host the other promoted side when they welcome Corbally Utd.
Corbally got off the mark on Sunday in a 2-2 draw with Villa and like their fellow newbies, have struck with their own to see them through the campaign.
They travel to a Fairview Rangers side who put nine past Hyde Rgs last weekend. Fairview Rangers are fully focused on retaining their title and will take some stopping.
Pike Rvs did well last Sunday when they came back from a goal down to beat Regional 3-1.
On Thursday they make the short trip to Geraldines looking to keep up their 100% record. Dines fell 4-2 in their opener to Mungret Regional and will not find it any easier when Pike arrive.
An interesting sidebar will see Dines new signing Eoin Hanrahan lining out against his former club.
Janesboro’s opening game with Nenagh was halted due to an unfortunate injury to ‘Boro player Conor Finn. Thankfully, he is now on the path to recovery.
On Thursday they welcome a Hyde Rangers who were hit with the loss of ten players from last season’s squad. They will continue to battle as they try to rebuild the side.
Like ‘Boro, Nenagh will be getting their campaign off the ground when they visit Aisling. The Annacotty side were disappointed when they went down 4-0 to Balla in their opener.
A lack of aggression in the middle of the park saw them cede midfield to their opponents. The coaches will have worked on that since Sunday so expect changes in that regard.
The local derby between Regional Utd and Mungret Regional will be well worth a view.
Mungret had a good start with a 4-2 win over Geraldines. Regional will be disappointed to have given up a lead before going down 3-1 to Pike Rvs.
In Division 1A, Parkville A host a fancied Herbertstown A while Shelbourne look for their second win when they host Cappamore.
