The gulf in attacking ruthlessness proved decisive in the end. Treaty punished the visitors for their inaccuracy in the first hour as 1,033 people watched on at the Garryowen venue.

Athlone almost broke the deadlock 15 minutes in. However, Dylan Hand couldn’t direct John Ross Wilson’s delightful right-wing cross on target.

Five minutes later, Treaty fashioned an opportunity of their own. However, Mark Walsh’s cushioned header trickled narrowly wide.

Athlone threatened to score again on 33 minutes. Slick interplay between Giddeon Tetteh and Brian Torre culminated with the former crossing to Ben Feeney, but he missed the target.

Home side Treaty spurned another opportunity on the stroke of half-time. Eoin Martin skied his effort over the crossbar following Lee Devitt’s deflected cross.

On 62 minutes, Bastien Hery almost gave Athlone the lead within minutes of his introduction.

Kyle O’Connor’s free-kick was deflected towards the former Limerick FC midfielder and his looping header almost found the net.

Three minutes later, Athlone survived a major scare. Lee Devitt fired a low shot wide after skilfully evading Aaron Connolly’s challenge.

Treaty almost hit the front on 68 minutes. Mark Byrne’s first-time effort cannoned off the crossbar after he collected Karl O’Sullivan’s free-kick.

Three minutes later, Treaty hit the front as Yoyo Mahdy netted his third goal in four games.

The Treaty striker finished to the net from inside the box following some incisive attacking from Karl O’Sullivan down the left.

Athlone could’ve pulled one back on 76 minutes. Adam Wixted’s 30-yard free-kick was tipped over the crossbar by Treaty goalkeeper Corey Chambers.

Lee J Lynch almost doubled Treaty’s advantage three minutes from time, his low shot was repelled by the leg of Athlone goalkeeper Lee Axworthy Duggan. Nonetheless, Treaty held on for a narrow victory.
