FAI JUNIOR CUP:

Janesboro 2 Ringmahon Rgs 0

IT PROVED a good day for Limerick’s two remaining hopefuls in the FAI Junior Cup with both progressing to the quarter-finals with home wins on Sunday.

Janesboro welcomed an in-form Ringmahon Rgs to Pearse Stadium on Sunday afternoon and after a dour struggle the home side proved victorious on a 2-0 scoreline.

Not for the first time in his career, Shane Clarke proved the hero for Boro with two goals in the final ten minutes.
Both sides were aware of the importance of the occasion with tw nervous teams cancelling each other out for the most part.
That said 'Boro had a great chance to take the lead after two minutes when Eoghan Burke’s free kick made it’s way to the back post for the inrunning Brendan O’Dwyer but he blazed his hot over the top.

The 'Boro defender made amends shortly after at the other end stopping Stephen Kennedy- Osubor’s shot from reaching the goal.

After the break Aodh O'Hanluain tested Cian O’Connor in the visitors goal with a shot from outside the box.
Rockmount’s cause was not helped when they lost the influential Adam O’Callaghan to a red card but the visitors still proved a stubborn bunch.

With ten minutes remaining, O'Hanluain looked like he would break the deadlock with his goal bound shot heading for the top corner, before O’Connor produced a wonder save.

There was little the keeper could do minutes later when a good run by Kai Joyce found it’s way to Clarke, 25 yards from goal. The veteran striker nonchalantly let fly leaving the keeper rooted to the spot and the ball nestled in the bottom corner.

With the spirit broken, Rockmount conceded again minutes later when Clarke struck again to ensure Boro’s name in the hat for tomorrow’s draw for the last eight.

Fairview led 1-0 at the break thanks to Oleg Vysochan’s goal on 25 minutes.

Brian Aherne began the move picking out Darragh Rainsford whose pass to Vysochan was drilled low to the net.

The Blues could have had further goals with Rainsford Jeffery Judge and Jason Cross all going close.

After the restart Rainsford went within a whisker of doubling the lead while at the other end Lewis Waweru was equally close for the visitors.
