'Do or die' for Limerick U20 hurlers as Waterford come to town
Defeats on the road against Cork and Clare have Evan Loftus’ side needing two wins from their final two games to remain in contention for a provincial semi-final spot
THE Limerick U20 hurlers enter must win territory as they fight for their lives in the Fulfil Munster Championship when Waterford visit the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Wednesday.
Defeats on the road against Cork and Clare have Evan Loftus’ side needing two wins from their final two games to remain in contention for a provincial semi-final spot.
Tipperary come to the TUS Gaelic Grounds on April 29 but first Waterford travel to the Ennis Road venue.
“We know that Wednesday is do-or-die for us but it’s one we’re very really, really looking forward to,” said Loftus. “First game at home so it's very, very important that we start well. We’ve to put our best foot forward now.
“It’s good to have two weeks’ prep now leading into Waterford,” said Loftus.
“Two home games so we’re looking to put our stamp on it and just looking to get a performance against Waterford on Wednesday.”
After conceding four goals in their opener game against Cork, it was a more solid effort at the back last time out in Sixmilebridge.
“Defensively, we looked quite good against Clare,” Loftus said.
“I thought we were a lot more solid as a unit, as a whole. I thought we defended well as a team. We need to continue that on Wednesday but we need to bring a few more attributes with it.”
The ‘Deise’ have lost all three games they have played to date in the Championship - but all three went down to the wire
“It’s a very talented Waterford side, with the rub of the green, they could be sitting top of the table on three wins,” said Loftus.
“They’re very well set up, coached very well, dangerous up top and they defend very, very well.
“It will be a huge test but one we are looking forward to.
Throw-in at the TUS Gaelic Grounds is 7pm.
