Former Limerick goalkeeping coach takes up coaching role with Kilkenny senior hurling team

FORMER Limerick goalkeeping coach Timmy Houlihan has taken up a coaching role with the Kilkenny senior hurling team ahead of the 2026 season. 

It has been reported by the Irish Independent that Houlihan will join Derek Lyng's backroom team. Lyng has already added former Kilkenny hurler Eddie Brennan and ex Dublin hurler Niall Corcoran to his management team for the upcoming season. 

Kilkenny last won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 2015. The Cats won their sixth Leinster Senior Hurling Championship in-a-row this year.

Houlihan was part of John Kiely's management from 2018 until 2024 where Limerick went on to five All-Ireland hurling championships and six Munster titles. The former Limerick goalkeeper worked closely with Nickie Quaid for six seasons. He then stepped away at the start of 2024 season due to a back injury. 

The Adare clubman lined out for the Limerick senior hurlers between 2001 and 2010. He was part of the Adare senior hurling management team this year alongside Mark Foley. The west Limerick club were defeated by Ballybrown in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final.
