LIMERICK premier intermediate hurling champions Garryspillane begin their Munster intermediate club hurling championship campaign this weekend. The Bouncers make the trip to Fraher Field in Dungarvan to take on Tallow in the Munster IHC quarter-final on this Saturday afternoon at 1.30pm.

2018 was the last time, Garryspillane took part in the Munster IHC and they were defeated by Clonea of Waterford 1-25 to 1-10 at the quarter-final stage.

Captain Colin Ryan feels Garryspillane didn't do themselves justice last time out in Munster.

“We probably didn't do ourselves justice the last time we were playing Munster club. We will rally the troops again, we're going down to Waterford, but we feel we can go a bit further,” Colin Ryan told Leader Sport.Garryspillane Manager Aaron Considine is looking forward to the Munster championship.

“I'd love a rattle at a Munster club, if we can get over the few injuries now in the next couple of weeks and hopefully we'll have a fair rattle at it,” said Considine.

Clare champions O'Callaghan Mills face Kerry champions Abbeydorney in the other quarter-final on Sunday afternoon.
The winner of both quarter-finals will meet each other in the semi-final with the Tipperary champions Upperchurch Drombane and Ballinhassig of Cork locking horns in the other semi-final.

Garryspillane needed a penalty shootout to get the better of Effin in the Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship final. The Knocklong side defeated their south Limerick rivals 3-0 on penalties. Hugh Flanagan, Ciaran Sheehan and Dylan O'Shea all converted from the penalty spot, while Nickie Quaid and Patrick O'Donovan's penalties were saved by Garryspillane's goalkeeper Adam Sheehan.

An absorbing final ebbed and flowed and it took the penalty shoot-out to decide the winners after the sides were level 4-19 to 2-25 after extra-time. A thrilling final saw the south Limerick rivals finish level, 2-14 each, after normal time.

After suffering relegation from the senior ranks in 2023, Aaron Considine's side have booked their place back in senior hurling.
Colin Ryan feels they have added strength and depth to their panel this year.

“That's testament to the group because no fella goes off and sulks or anything. We've a massive panel, a 30-man panel and they're all doing the best for the club,” added Ryan.

Goalkeeper Adam Sheehan has impressed for the south Limerick club. Sheehan pulled off some fantastic saves in their victory over Croagh-Kilfinny in the semi-final and in the final against Effin.

“In the semi-final Adam was heroic, he made a couple of savage saves. In the final, he made two incredible saves during normal time and extra time and saved two penalties then, that's absolutely heroic stuff. I'm delighted for him because the effort he puts in and everything, he deserves that,” said Colin Ryan.
