Clubs set for high stakes group ties in Limerick Senior Hurling Championship

THE WHITEBOX Limerick senior hurling championship is reaching a critical stage with now just two rounds of group action remaining. Round four of the SHC takes place across this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

GROUP 1
Ballybrown v Doon, Kilmallock, Friday, 6:15pm

Both sides sit on four points after three games in the SHC.Ballybrown are in third place on four points, while Doon are in second place just ahead of them on scoring difference.Aidan O'Connor and Adam English have both been shooting the lights out for their clubs.O'Connor has been on target with 2-25, while Adam English has hit 1-28 in the opening three games of the SHC. The winner of this clash will put themselves in a strong position to advance directly into the semi-finals.

Verdict: Doon

Ahane v Patrickswell, Claughaun, Friday, 6:30pm

AHANE are not yet mathematically out of the championship, they will need to win their final two groups games and hope that results go in their favour.It is the first time in over a decade that Patrickswell will not compete in the knockout stages of the championship.Ahane have one point from their opening three games and Patrickswell are yet to register a victory.
If Patrickswell lose this game, the Well will be relegated to group two of the SHC for the 2026 season.

Verdict: Ahane


Kilmallock v Na Piarsaigh, Mick Neville Park, Saturday, 6pm

NA PIARSAIGH and Kilmallock meet in a repeat of last year's county semi-final on Saturday evening which the Caherdavin side prevailed by a single point.Shane O'Neill's charges are on top of the table on five points and after two draws and a win in their first game Kilmallock are on four points.In the absence of Conor Boylan and Peter Casey in attack, Adrian Breen and Kevin Downes have impressed for the county finalists in attack.Limerick defender Mike Casey made his first appearance for Na Piarsaigh at the weekend.Kilmallock are one of the three teams that remain unbeaten in the SHC. Shane O'Brien has scored 1-21 for the south Limerick side.

Verdict: Na Piarsaigh

Group Two
Monaleen v Newcastle West, Sean Finn Park, Rathkeale, Thursday, 6:30pm

A WIN for Monaleen over Newcastle West will see the Castletroy side be promoted to group one for the 2026 season and secure their place into the quarter-finals of the SHC.After three draws in their first three games, Newcastle West need a victory this week if the Magpies are to remain in contention to reach the last six of the championship.Monaleen are the only team in group two of the championship that have won all three of their games.Donnacha Ó Dálaigh was in impressive form hitting 1-4 in Monlaeen's victory over Mungret St Paul's. Limerick U20 star Diarmuid Lyons limped off with an ankle injury in Newcastle West's draw with Dromin-Athlacca.

Verdict: Monaleen


Kildimo-Pallaskenry v Mungret St Paul's, Friday, Clarina, 6:30pm

THE winners of this clash will put themselves in a strong position to reach the knockout stages of SHC.Kildimo-Pallaskenry are on three points and Mungret St Paul's are just behind them on two points.It is unlikely that either side will catch Monaleen. Tony McCarthy and Kyle Hayes have been significant losses for Declan Nash's side through injury. Meanwhile, Fintan Fitzgerald made his return from injury last week for Mungret St Paul's.

Verdict: Mungret St Paul's


Adare v Dromin-Athlacca Saturday, Ballingarry, 3pm

A WIN for Adare this weekend will keep them in contention to reach the quarter-finals of the SHC.Willie Griffin and Wayne McNamara made their returns from injury last week and Griffin was in impressive form hitting 0-9 in Adare's first win of the SHC. A defeat for Dromin-Athlacca against Adare would put the south Limerick club under pressure to retain their senior status for next year. Limerick senior hurler Cian Scully is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury and he is a major loss for Darren Moynihan's side.

Verdict: Adare
