Limerick hurling stars overlooked in RTE Sunday Game Team of the Year selection

Despite reaching this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling quarter-final and falling just short in a dramatic penalty shootout against Cork in the Munster final, Limerick were left without a single representative in the 2025 Sunday Game Team of the Year. The panel of analysts did not include any Limerick players on this season's team of the year. 

There were a number of Limerick performers who performed consistently throughout the championship. Kyle Hayes slotted in seamlessly to the number six jersey for the Shannonsiders in 2025. Doon clubman Adam English enjoyed a breakthrough season in the middle of the field. 

Meanwhile, Patrickswell's Cian Lynch and Aaron Gillane impressed for the 2024 Munster champions in attack. A number of Limerick stars can consider themselves unlucky not to feature in this year’s Sunday Game team of the year selection.

The Sunday Game Team of the Year featured seven players from All-Ireland champions Tipperary, three from Cork, two from Kilkenny, and one each player Dublin and Galway. 

Tipperary goalkeeper Rhys Shelly was awarded the number one jersey for his performances throughout the year. Tipperary's Robert Doyle, Kilkenny's Huw Lawlor and Sean O'Donoghue of Cork complete the full back line. 

Eoghan Connolly and Ronan Maher of the Premier County partner Ciaran Joyce in the half back line. Galway's Cathal Mannion and Darragh Fitzgibbon make up the midfield. 

Jake Morris is joined by Andrew Ormond and Cian O'Sullivan in the half forward line. Tipperary full forward John McGrath completes the full forward line alongside Martin Keoghan and Brian Hayes.
