THE LIMERICK senior hurling squad has returned from their warm-weather training camp in Portugal. John Kiely's squad spent five days last week in the Quinta do Lago Sports Complex in the Algarve to crank up their preparations for the upcoming Munster senior hurling championship.
Limerick begin their Munster championship campaign against Tipperary on Sunday, April 20 at Semple Stadium, Thurles, 4pm.
John Kiely said Limerick have now switched their focus towards the Munster championship.
“I suppose as much as you would love to continue on in the league, when it comes clear that you are not going to be involved in the final stages of it, of course your mindset does switch towards the championship.
“It's all geared towards April 20 now and the weeks thereafter, trying to be the best we can be for maybe those six weeks” said Limerick manager John Kiely at the launch of the Munster senior hurling championship last week.
Kiely felt it was important for his squad to spend time together during their warm-weather training camp ahead of the championship.
“You can never underestimate the value of having time together. When we're together during a normal week, there's no time for the group as a whole to socialise. Getting time where not every minute is counted is a rarity in an inter-county set-up.
“So, to have that time together where we can actually relax and still get the work done is really valuable. If you listen to any of the managers of professional teams, they will highlight the importance of that unity and togetherness piece, it comes from spending time together and getting to know eachother really well. This is our opprtunity to do that and it can't be under-estimated,” added Kiely
