Scoil Na Trionóide Naofa Doon fall short to CBC in first-round of Harty Cup hurling competition
DOON'S SCOIL Na Trionóide Naofa lost to Christian Brothers College, Cork in the first-round of the Dr Harty Cup this Wednesday afternoon.
The Munster Post Primary Schools U19 A hurling championship finished 0-19 to 0-9 in Glenroe.
This confident victory for the Cork secondary school is the second year in-a-row they have defeated Doon in the group stages of the competition.
The Limerick secondary school failed to reach the knockout stages of the Harty Cup last year. The Doon side will next play fellow Limerick side, John the Baptist Community School, Hospital in the second round of fixtures on Wednesday, November 6.
Neither of today's opponents have won a Harty Cup title but have reached a final - CBC most recently falling short in the 2019 and 2020 finals while Doon have not reached a Harty final since 2014.
Doon's defence was under serious pressure from the opening minute with CBC's full-forward line looking extremely threatening.
With this constant pressure came Christian Brothers College's first point of the game as Doon's Eamon Richardson unluckily lost the control of the sliotar gifting a point to Michael Brosnan after two minutes.
Diarmuid McCarthy's charges did well to fight back at the other end of the field with opposite full-forward Robbie McGrath gathering the breaking ball and slotting it over the bar.
Two more points were exchanged by either side in the seventh and ninth minute to leave the game all square at two points a piece before CBC kicked into gear.
Between the 20 minute mark and the half-time whistle scores came extremely easy to the Cork side who slotted over seven unanswered points.

Scoil Na Trionóide Naofa struggled to gain possession of the scrapy balls on the ground. This problem was compounded with their inability to score their frees.
CBC made no mistake with their shots in front of the Doon goal with points coming from their two midfielders Jack Hegarty and Michael Quill and with Eoghan O'Shea firing over two frees of his own to end the half for them.
The Limerick school fought back in the closing minutes of the first-half with two points, one from Diarmuid Crowe and a free from Robbie McGrath, to leave them chasing the game at the break 0-10 to 0-4.
This first-round game was ultimately won within those ten minutes before half-time as CBC pushed on once again after the break, scoring in the first minute with a fabulous point from O'Shea.
The scoring blitz from the Cork team continued, despite Scoil Na Trionóide Naofa's defence doing their best to hold firm. A further two points were added to the scoreboard for CBC before the Limerick school registered their first point of the second half, courtesy of Diarmuid Crowe's 45' in the 37th minute.
CBC answered back immediately, though, through Michael Brosnan and Eoghan O'Shea, who was foot perfect on the frees for his side throughout the contest.
The Doon school were only able to score three more points in the second half with their last point of the game coming from Crowe's hurley after 50 minutes.
Christian Brothers College closed out the win as they fired over another four points in the last ten minutes of the game to secure the ten-point victory.
