JUST two Limerick players have been included in the RTE Sunday Game Team of the Year which was announced on Sunday evening.

Effin goalkeeper Nickie Quaid and wing back Kyle Hayes, of Kildimo-Pallaskenry, were included on the XV selected by the Sunday Game pundits in the wake of the All-Ireland senior hurling final.

Limerick claimed a record sixth successive Munster senior hurling title this year overcoming Clare in the decider for a third year in a row before bowing out of the championship in a dramatic All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Cork earlier this month.

Goalkeeper Quaid won his seventh Munster senior hurling medal this summer and his inclusion in the Sunday Game XV is reward for another ultra consistent season.

This is the fifth year in a row that the versatile Kyle Hayes is selected on the Sunday Game Team of the Year. The four-time All-Star completes the half-back line along with David McInerney, of Clare, and Cork's Robert Downey.

Limerick sharpshooter Aaron Gillane and the exciting Cathal O'Neill were among the Limerick players who were unlucky to lose out on selection.

In all, seven players from newly-crowned All-Ireland champions Clare were named in the side along with six players from All-Ireland finalists Cork.

Clare's Shane O'Donnell was selected as the Sunday Game's Hurler of the Year.
