Former Waterford manager Derek McGrath is in line to take up a coaching role with Doon PICTURE: Sportsfile

DOON GAA club could be set to announce a high profile addition to their coaching team for 2024 with former Waterford manager Derek McGrath on the shortlist to be involved for the coming season.
The east Limerick club reached the Limerick SHC semi-finals last year, losing on penalties to a Na Piarsaigh side that went on to beat Patrickswell in the decider.
Clare's Fergie O'Loughlin was the Doon manager last year and had occasional training sessions conducted by current Waterford boss Davy Fitzgerald.
However, Doon are moving in a different direction for the coming season with McGrath believed to be on a shortlist of candidates to be involved with senior team.
McGrath enjoyed a five-year stint in charge of Waterford's senior hurlers from 2013 to 2018. He was involved with the Dublin U20 hurlers last year as a coach and was heavily linked to the Wexford senior job for the coming season, but that gig went to Yellowbelly native Keith Rossiter.
Doon have a plethora of talented hurlers in their ranks with the likes of Darragh O'Donovan, Adam English, Richie English, Barry Murphy and Pat Ryan all winning All-Ireland medals since 2018.
Despite multiple underage success, Doon still await their first Limerick SHC title and will hope that whoever joins their set up, they can help end the long wait for a Daly Cup.
