LIMERICK’S Peter Casey has been announced as the Man of the Match after Sunday's historic All-Ireland final success at Croke Park.

Casey scored five points from play during the second half of the match and was presented with his accolade at the Fitzgerald Woodlands Hotel in Adare by GAA President, Larry McCarthy.

Speaking on RTÉ's The Sunday Game, Peter said: “The main goal of the day was to get over the line, any personal accolades that come after that is great. At half-time we weren’t really as fluid as our normal selves and we rectified that.

At the start of the year a lot of people thought we were struggling but we were very happy with our trajectory and we were improving game on game. Sticking to the process was the main aim for the whole season.”

Two years on from a cruciate injury, Peter Casey has now come back into the Limerick team on a high of winning four All-Ireland’s in a row.

“Look it is tough coming back from injury, but that is part and parcel of sport. Just getting through those nine months made it even better to get onto the pitch again today.”

Separately, the 2023 Sunday Game Hurler of the Year decision came down to three different players but it was decided in the end that Kildimo-Pallaskenry man, Kyle Hayes, was the best overall option and was officially named Hurler of the Year by the panel.

The panel's hurling team of the year was also announced during the Sunday Game programme.

Seven Limerick players made the Team of the Year, decided by the panellists on the show.

Dan Morrisey, Diarmaid Byrnes, Will O’Donoghue, Kyle Hayes, Darragh O’Donovan, Tom Morrisey and Aaron Gillane were all named in the team.
