Moyross jockey Wesley Joyce celebrates sixth winner of flat season

MOYROSS jockey Wesley Joyce scored a narrow success on the Michael Mulvany-trained Dinamine at Gowran Park on Wednesday last.

The seven-year-old, trained by Mulvany at the beginning of career before spending time elsewhere, was having his first start back for the Kells trainer and he battled well under his highly-rated Limerick jockey to pip Keith Watson’s 16/1 shot Serengeti Sunrise and Shane Foley by a shorthead. It was Joyce’s sixth winner of the season.

Shanagolden jockey Chris Hayes gave Gordon Elliott a winner on the Flat as the three-year-old Combs ran out the 11/1 winner of the 12-furlong maiden at Tipperary on Thursday.

Owned by Sapphire Racing, she made all the running to beat Donnacha O'Brien’s even money favourite Treasure Planet by a length on her third start. 

Ballingarry trainer Charles Byrnes and his son Philip won the opening race of 2025 at Kilbeggan on Thursday where the five-year-old Allo Al Khawaneej scored an easy success in the near two-mile maiden hurdle.

Owned by the Hitch And Tow Syndicate, which includes members from Clifden, Navan, Portlaoise and Clare, the well-supported 4/1 chance led after the final hurdle to beat the Riceal Dunne-trained 28/1 shot Walking On Annilog by three and a quarter lengths.

Ballingarry jockey Billy Lee and Paddy Twomey combined to take the seven-furlong maiden with Admiral Churchill at Limerick on Friday. At odds of 100/30, the three-year-old made much of the running and came home half a length to the good over Joseph O'Brien’s 11/10 favourite Hostility.

At Kilbeggan on the same day, Bruree-based trainer Enda Bolger scored a narrow success in the opening maiden hurdle with the 11/10 favourite Park That.

In the JP McManus colours, the Jody McGarvey-ridden five-year-old led after the third-last hurdle and just held the Jessica Harrington-trained 3/1 chance Powerful, another in the McManus colours, by a shorthead.

A week before he’s crowned champion trainer in Ireland for the 19th time, Willie Mullins landed his second British trainers’ championship at Sandown on Saturday.

On the final day of the season, Mullins comfortably overhauled Dan Skelton to win by £199,508 with wins during the afternoon for the Paul Townend-ridden Gaelic Warrior and Il Etait Temps, ridden by Danny Mullins to beat Jonbon in the Grade 1 bet365 Celebration Chase, and placed efforts from Lombron, High Class Hero, Spanish Harlem and Grangeclare West in the bet365 Gold Cup Handicap chase, sealing the deal.
