SINGER-songwriter Dermot Kennedy has set the record straight on his much-anticipated 'mystery' appearance in Limerick - which never materialised.
Hundreds of people gathered on Thomas Street in Limerick city centre to see the singer, after word spread on social media this Monday that he was going to do an impromptu performance in the city in the afternoon.
However, as the minutes turned into hours and there was still no sight of the Dubliner, the crowds began to disperse.
In an Instagram story this Monday at around 5.10pm, he gave his fans an update, stating that “the rumour started by somebody based on nothing".
Addressing Limerick fans, he said: "Please don’t waste your time, as I’m up in Dublin for some downtime. Sorry for any disappointment caused by whoever did that."
“On a brighter note, I can’t wait to play for you at Thomond next summer!!!,” he concluded as he encouraged his fans to get tickets for his third and final date in the city.
Only a few weeks ago, Kennedy wowed fans in Dublin when he gave an impromptu performance on Grafton Street in Dublin.
Limerick fans were hoping for more of the same this Monday.
At around 12pm, fans started to flock to Thomas Street and Bedford Row in Limerick city in the hope of seeing Kennedy busking. Some even came from as far as Tipperary when they heard the rumours!
At one point, heads turned as a sports car drove past the crowd, from Little William Street to Thomas Street. However, hopes were dashed when it wasn't the acclaimed singer.
Dermot Kennedy will perform for three nights in a row at Thomond Park next July, as part of the Sonder Tour.
