The Abbeyfeale Christmas tree, which will form part of the festive switch-on this Friday
IT’S LIGHTS, camera, action for Abbeyfeale as the community plans to come together to officially switch on the Christmas lights, kickstarting the festive season.
Abbeyfeale Christmas Lights Committee are rallying around to bring Christmas home to the town, and this year, have bought bright new LED lighting to keep the town bright and sparkling.
“The committee spent a huge sum this year buying new lighting to replace all the old lights,” a member of the committee told Limerick Live.
This year’s official switch on takes place this Friday, November 25, with Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Francis Foley, pressing the button, along with assistance from his two little helpers, Mr and Mrs Clause.
Anyone interested, can apply to the committee to set up a stall and canopy as part of the Christmas Crafts Fair, which will take place at the same time as the switch on.
A number of fundraising events have taken place over the past few weeks to combat the cost of overheads associated with the new festive display.
The committee will be bag packing in SuperValu on December 2 and 3, which will provide an opportunity for them to chat to people and tell them all about the lights.
“The committee really appreciates all the property owners who allow them to cross the front of their building with the lights and especially those who are providing power to keep lighting. Without them, it would be impossible to have lights continuing down the streets and into The Square,” a committee member added.
