The units beside O’Mara’s Motors on the Ennis Road
PLANNING permission is being sought to build a two-storey warehouse unit beside a northside motor showroom.
The Kilkenny Co-Ownership Partnership has applied for permission to Limerick City and County Council to demolish two “vacant and substandard” units beside O’Mara’s Motors on the Ennis Road, and replace it with a purpose-built commercial warehouse.
Tha plans show the proposed unit would measure 489 square metres, and incorporate a part-mezzanine first floor.
Inside, there would be a reception area, ancillary offices and staff facilities.
“The proposed structure will project slightly on units west facing, in line with an existing dwarf wall at the site,” the documents add.
Local Fianna Fail election candidate Pat O’Neill has welcomed the application.
He said: “It’s a good sign that the owners of the properties are looking at and realising the potential which is out on the Ennis Road and more focus is coming back to that area. They are going to revamp, for want of a better word, that area.”
Mr O’Neill said he believes the new warehouse will contain small light enterprises.
While the units are vacant, a fitted-bathroom company was once located at the site in the Ennis Road.
Limerick council planners are expected to make a decision on the project in the next week.
