Limerick man bought car on impulse but couldn’t afford insurance

Newcastle West Court heard that the man bought the car on impulse but balked at the insurance cost of €4,360

A LIMERICK man who bought a car on impulse but could not afford to insure it was convicted of driving without insurance at Fanningstown, Patrickswell last August 2.

Dean Boddy, 32 Tait Court, Lord Edward St, Limerick was fined €250 but was not disqualified from driving.

Pleading for his client, solicitor Michael O’Donnell said he had bought the vehicle shortly before he was stopped. It was an impulse purchase, he said but he then discovered it would cost €4,360 to get insurance.

He had planned to obtain insurance, Mr O’Donnell told Judge Mary Larkin, but couldn’t get the money together.

His licence was important for his work as a farm manager, he pleaded.

The defendant was fined €150 for driving without a driving licence but a charge of failing to produce insurance was taken into consideration.
