Limerick auctioneer swaps Munster match in Edinburgh for making sales in Corbally

Limerick auctioneer swaps Munster match in Edinburgh for making sales in Corbally

The eight houses released in Laurelville Corbally on Saturday were snapped up

AUCTIONEER Joe Wheeler should have been roaring on Munster in Edinburgh on Saturday but instead he was receiving booking deposits.

The launch of homes in Laurelville, Mill Road, Corbally was due to have taken place on Saturday, March 23. However, as the showhouse wasn’t ready it was postponed until last Saturday leaving Mr Wheeler with a dilemma.

“I gave up a trip to Edinburgh. I had flights and accommodation booked and two tickets for the match,” said Mr Wheeler.

“I gave away the tickets to two very grateful friends,” he smiled. At least it was worth his while as the eight houses released were snapped up.

Laurelville is made up of 12 four bedroom semi-detached and 12 four bedroom detached houses. The semi-detached ones cost €335,000, while the detached are available for €385,000. Deposits were paid for four of each on Saturday. That amounts to close to €3 million worth of sales.

The viewing time was from 11am to 2pm but the first people were there at 9.30am.

“It was done on a first come, first served basis. We had big footfall. We had around 100. There was a steady flow all day. We released eight and sold eight. They were gone by noon,” said Mr Wheeler. He said those in attendance were “mostly young couples”.

“They were very impressed by the showhouse.  We have had four requests this morning to see if we can sell the showhouse but so far we haven’t decided to release it,” said Mr Wheeler, who spoke to the Leader at 10.30am on Monday. He said a lot of people expressed interest in phase two.

“We are taking names but we’re not releasing any more for the moment,” he said. Mr Wheeler expects the eight houses sold to be occupied in July. It is hoped the whole development will be completed by February 2020
