FOUR 15 ounce steaks each day and around eight chicken fillets are part of the intake of Ireland's strongest man, Pa O'Dwyer.

Pa who trains in Raheen, scooped the title for the third year in a row at the annual competition which was held in Bangor.

In order to win the title, Pa had lifted a van as many times as possible and also had to shift boulders of concrete on to barrels and flip a 450 kilogramme earth moving machine.

To get into shape for the contest, the Newcastle West man, had a strict diet, which sees him eat pounds of red meat and 60 chicken fillets each week.

He told Live95FM that in the days leading up to the contest, he ate a 15 ounce steak four times a day.

Pa has gained great experience being part of the Strongman series of events, competing against Thor the Mountain from Game of Thrones and Eddie Hall, who has shows on Netflix.

With the Irish title in the bag for the third year in a row, Pa’s attention now switches to the British contest, where he finished third last year.

“I’d love to go back to the UK’s Strongest Man, to do the unthinkable and perhaps come first.

“Then I’d like to move to the World’s Strongest Man. There hasn’t been an Irishman at the world tournament for a long time,” he added.

He said one crux is needing to be full time – all entrants to this contest have this status, Pa said, adding he’s looking for sponsorship for this.
