A car was stolen in a matter of seconds in the Castletroy area

GARDAI in Limerick are warning motorists not to leave their cars unsupervised when defrosting them during the cold snap.

It follows a recent incident in the Castletroy area during which a car was stolen in a matter of seconds.

“In this case a lady went out and turned on the engine of her car to defrost it, she went into her house to get some warm water and when she returned her car had been stolen,” said a garda spokesperson.

“I must advise people not to do this, under no circumstances should you leave your car unattended, even for a short time unless it is securely locked,” she added.
