Status Yellow: Met Eireann issues national warning for snow and ice

MET Eireann has issued a status yellow national weather warning for snow and ice.

The forecaster is warning of scattered snow showers this Thursday night with accumulations of less than 3cm. 

It suggest that showers will be more frequent in the west and north of the country. The warning is in effect from 9pm tonight to 9am on Friday morning.

In Munster, it will become much colder this evening and early tonight as winds freshen and turn northwesterly in direction and temperatures drop to between -2 and +1 degrees.

Widespread showers will be wintry with some snow accumulations, frost and icy stretches.

There will be a frosty start to Friday morning but otherwise tomorrow will be bright and cold with wintry showers becoming more isolated and many places having long dry periods.

Highs of 4 to 7 degrees Celsius in blustery northwesterly winds.
