Man and child killed in crash on N24 in Limerick

Gardai attend scene of crash on N24 in Limerick

Gardai are attending the scene of the crash on the N24. Diversions are in place

GARDAI in Bruff are investigating a fatal collision in County Limerick this morning in which a man and a young child were killed.

The head-on collision took place at around 8.30am at Brook’s Bridge between Pallasgreen and Oola on the Limerick to Tipperary stretch of the N24.

It is understood that a 2005 registered black coloured Audi, carrying the man - who is understood to be a non-national - and a young child, was in a collision with a truck, driven by another man.

The man and the child in the car were “pronounced dead at the scene”, gardai said.

Their bodies remain at the scene. The truck driver was not injured but is being treated for shock, gardai added.

The investigation is being headed up by Inspector Luke Conlon, the Acting Superintendent at Bruff Garda Station.

Inspector Conlon said the road was closed in both directions with diversions in place.

“The road is closed from Pallasgreen out and from Doon Junction on the way in from Tipperary. It is likely to be closed for a good while, as we are awaiting the arrival of a Forensic Collision Inspector who is based in Cork,” Insp Conlon said.

Gardai at Bruff are appealing for witnesses and can be contacted on 061 382940.
